Police in Paris have opened fire on a car ramming the Tour de France route on the race's final day.
Police in Paris have opened fire on a car carrying a number of men as the vehicle tried to ram through crowd control barriers on the Tour de France route.
The two men in the car managed to escape and were apparently unharmed.
The incident unfolded at 8am local time at Place de la Concorde, which forms part of the Champs-Elysees finishing circuit route in Paris this afternoon for the race’s final stage.
Luc Poignant, a spokesman with the SGP police union, said police were still setting up the barriers when the car arrived on the scene and tried to crash through, at which point shots were fired.
Nothing had emerged at the time of writing to suggest the incident was terrorist related and the matter, while dramatic, has not disrupted the race’s plans for the final stage.
Local reports suggest the car involved had been in collision with another vehicle moments earlier and was trying to flee when it found its way blocked by the barriers being erected.
