Four bikes of the future by some of the world's brightest companies

When the people who make Xbox entered an international competition to design a bike that would meet the challenges of modern life, their 'Denny' mount emerged the winner. It has some fantastic features. But the other four finalists are pretty cool too.

 

The Denny

The winning bike was the product of two Seattle-based companies; Sizemore Bicycles and the Teague design company. Taylor Sizemore designs custom bikes while Teague is a design collective, not limited to the bike game but designing everything from upmarket interiors for planes to architectural and electronic projects.

The BLACKLINE

Designed by the Chicago-based Method company and MNML. Method normally builds custom steel frame bicycles handcrafted. It is headed by Garry Alderman, who blends his skills as an architect and craftsman in the production of bespoke bikes. MNML is a disruptive design company specialising many in the electronic area.

 

The Merge

This entry was the product of two New York firms, design and invention company Pensa and Horse Cycles. Pensa designs a wide range of products, from electronic goods to street furniture and household items. Horse Cycles produce classic handcraft bespoke bikes.

The EVO

With a heavy emphasis on practical use, this bike was designed by Forty One Thirty Cycle Works and Huge Design, both based in San Francisco. The former builds some very classic looking bicycles while Huge Design focuses on coming up with design solutions for some of the biggest brands in the world including Google and Nike..

 

The Solid

This entry is the product of a collaboration between TI Cycles Fabrication and the Industry design company, both of which are based in Portland, Oregon. TI Cycles is a custom frame builder that also makes bike components while Industry designs a range of products, from sports kit to mobile phone accessories and electronic goods.
