Former Scottish road race champion Matti Dobbins is set to make his debut for Ireland after being named on the national team to take on the upcoming Grenchen International in Switzerland.
Dobbins, who won the Scottish road title two years ago, has been competing on the road with UCI Continental team XSpeed United Continental; a Canadian UC Continental team with Irish rider Leo Doyle on its roster.
The 23-year-old Dobbins is one of seven riders - two women and five men - who will race in Switzerland this weekend.
Esther Wong, who made her debut for Ireland at the recent UCI Cyclocross World Cup in Dublin has also been selected and will ride the omnium, elimination race and points race.
Aoife O’Brien, who last competed for Ireland at the UCI World Road Championships, will ride the omnium and scratch race while Stefan Caulfield-Dreier will also be back in the green of Ireland, riding the omnium, points race, scratch race and elimination race, as will Dobbins, who declared for Ireland in 2023.
Junior Tour of Ireland stage winner, Max Fitzgerald, will compete in the omnium, points race, scratch race and elimination race, as will Luca Holmes and Philip O'Connor, both of whom having already represented Ireland on the track this year.
National track cycling coach, Dan Henchy, said he was "happy to see a number of riders with the opportunity to race and build on their track racing experience" in Grenchen.
"It’s a really well run event with a competitive field which offers our riders an ideal level of competition exposure where they can hone their fitness and racecraft and compete against riders from across Europe in a UCI ranked race," he said.
"Events like this are instrumental in helping develop our young riders and enabling them test themselves in a well supported environment. We are looking forward to some exciting racing as we build towards the 2025 season. ”
