Former National Road Race Champion, Julian Dalby has taken a new official world record in the discipline of weight lifting.
The Dubliner captured the record back in June but it has just been officially ratified by ‘Guinness World Records’.
His new record comes in the dead lift category. The move involves a loaded barbell being lifted off the ground, with the athlete straightening their back and legs to a standing position. The weight is held at waist height. The barbell is then put back on the ground, thus completing the lift.
The barbell is not lifted any higher than waist height, meaning most of the pressure is on the athlete’s legs, buttocks and back area.

Dalby lifted the greatest ever weight in one hour in a series of 2,192 lifts of differing weights.
His official Guinness World Record announcement reads:
“The greatest weight dead lifted in one hour is 68,210 kg (150,377 lb 5 oz) by Julian Dalby at the Raw Condition Gym in Dublin, Ireland, on 3 June 2012. Julian performed 109 reps of 50kg; 27 reps of 40 kg and 2056 of 30 kg.”
Dalby won the National Road Race title in 1990 and is also a former National TT Champion. After quitting cycling he studied medicine and is now a doctor. He spends a lot of his time in the Caribbean when not in Ireland and he is also involved in mixed martial arts.
