The man who secured Aqua Blue Sport’s biggest win, a stage victory at last year’s Vuelta, has dissolved a new WorldTour contract before it had begun.
Austrian Stefan Denifl had been due to ride for CCC Team from January 1st. However, despite news of his deal having been widely reported on in recent months, he has asked that it be terminated.
The team has agreed meaning he will not ride for it next year as had been planned. It was unclear why he has surrendered his place in the team.

“CCC Team and Stefan Denifl have mutually agreed to terminate the contract that was to take effect on January 1st, 2019,” the team said.
“Due to personal reasons, Stefan requested to terminate the contract, which was accepted by CCC Team management.
“To respect Stefan’s privacy, neither the team nor Stefan will be communicating further,” the statement added.

The statement went on to say the team thanked Denifl for his “openness, wish him well and hope to see him back in the peloton in the future”.
Denifl’s place in the team will be taken by compatriot Riccardo Zoidl, who last rode at WorldTour level in 2016 with Trek.
Stefan Denifl won stage 17 of last year’s Vuelta. However, it was not enough for Aqua Blue to secure an invite back for this year.
He also claimed overall victory in the Tour of Austria last year. His signing for CCC Team was announced in late October just over two months after Aqua Blue Sport collapsed.
CCC Team will be new to the peloton next season. It is effectively an amalgamation of BMC Racing and Polish ProContinental outfit CCC Sprandi Polkowice.
