Cycling Ireland has named a five-man Irish team for Rás Tailteann, which gets underway in Navan, Co Meath, tomorrow two weeks, May 17th.

The national governing body has stuck with selecting U23 riders, with an older more experienced road captain; a role filled by Rory Townsend last year. This time around Dillon Corkery, who has been in flying form in France of late for his CC Étupes team, has been selected as road captain.

Corkery will take charge on the road, with former world track champion Martyn Irvine in the directeur's seat in the team car.

The four U23 riders who make up the nucleus of the team are a mix of those up and coming Irish cyclists based at home and abroad, namely Aaron Wade, Patrick O’Loughlin, Odhran Doogan and Ewan Warren.

“Rás Tailteann provides an excellent development opportunity for the riders chosen," said Irvine, a former road professional who also won a stage of the Rás during his career. "Our primary goal is to use the 5-day stage race as a learning experience, and I am looking forward to seeing what the team can do against a competitive field.”

More to come.
