Mauri Vansevenant, the 21-year-old Belgian neo pro riding with Deceuninck-QuickStep, took a brilliant win on Sunday, though it was eclipsed by the show his parents put on while watching his big moment on TV.
Vansevenant was the only rider in the select group at GP Industria & Artigianato (1.Pro) in Italy able to follow Nairo Quintana (Arkea Samsic) when the Colombian pulled the trigger on the final climb.
And while their two-man move swelled to five - including Bauke Mollema (Trek-Segafredo) and Mikel Landa (Bahrain Victorious) - before the finish, Vansevenant beat them in the final sprint to take his first pro win in his first year at WorldTour level.
His father and mother were at home watching the race; deciding not to travel to Italy because of Covid-19. Their nervous-turned-elated reaction was captured by somebody who recorded them and shared the video on social media (below).
It's safe to say they were fairly happy with the exploits of their young off-spring, as the video below shows.
Vansevenant's father - Wim Vansevenant - is a former pro rider, having retired in 2008 after a long career which he ended with Silence-Lotto.
