Here's the first look at national road race champion Mel Spath's new kit for the coming road season.
Mel is kitted out here in her skinsuit which she'll wear for time trial efforts and it will most likely get its first outing at the National Cyclocross Championships in Belfast this Sunday.
Her new team is still working away on her road gear for the coming season, which will obviously see her decked out in her national champion's livery.
Her Team Tibco national champ's kit looked great in 2013, as you can see from the photo below, so hopefully her new employers can do a similarly good job.
The Irish champion for the past two seasons, Spath penned a deal with the Danish pro squad Team Rytger in the off season. It counts Danish national champion Kamilla Sofie Vallin among its ranks.
Having converted to road racing just two years ago from mountain biking, where she won a string of national titles and scored some major victories on the UK circuit, Spath lifted the national road crown for the first time in 2012. She then progressed to ride for US-based Team Tibco last year and won the national road title again.
She boosted her experience and strength riding in the US, Europe and Asia, and will be looking to bring that experience to bear during the coming season for her new employer.
Her new team will be familiar to Irish cycling fans having ridden Rás na mBan as recently as last year.
On that occasion, Siggaard Malling took victory on the final stage for Team Rytger in a race where Spath finished second overall to Olivia Dillon, her team mate on the Irish squad for the An Post-backed premier Irish women’s event. Malling was also 4th overall on the final general classification.
Spath told stickybottle recently the coming season would be make or break for her and would determine if she would continue in the sport on a full-time basis.
“Because the team is a first year UCI team they don’t have very many big riders and don’t have any UCI points so we don’t get any automatic invites to UCI races," she said at the time.
“We just have to wait on wildcards and will only find out later on which races we are doing. I hope that I’ll get the chance to do some big races with my team and I think I will.”
“If I could get some top 10s or top 20s in big UCI races, I’d be happy. Last year, riding the world championships was a really good experience. I know what I need to do to be better next year.
“Hopefully the past year will have given me the experience that I need to ride in big races in Europe and hopefully I’ll be selected again.”
