Amid a whole series of Irish road race cancellations and postponements there is finally some good news, with Cycling Ireland's women's commission confirming the Corkagh Park series will begin in June.
The Corkagh Park Summer Race Series will involve 14 races this year, on Tuesday evenings. The first event is set to take place on June 1st, seven weeks away.
The Dublin park's racing track was installed for road races and is an ideal location for beginners or those relatively new to the sport to hone their racing and bunch skills in a safe environment.
“Despite all the restrictions we managed to run six races
last year and we also noted a significant rise in participation in comparison
to 2019, which we see as a great achievement,” the women’s commission said of
the 65 per cent increase in participation recorded last year.
It added racing would run weekly this year from June 1st
to August 31st, meaning a three-month block that will facilitate plenty of
action and rider development.
Any club looking to host one of the race nights in
Corkagh Park or any riders hoping to book their place in the events can contact
the organisers at [email protected].
Those clubs interested in hosting a round of the series
at the Dublin course should contact the women’s commission before May 4th.
