A cyclists who fitted a motor and batteries to their bike to convert it into an eBike had a lucky escape when it overheated and burst into flames.
The bike disintegrated as the lithium battery packed exploded, apparently when it overheated, with the incident all taking place in traffic.
Chichester Fire Service in the UK said it was called out to attend the unusual fire and warned that fires like this can cause the bike to break up and effectively explode.

“Please keep such items well maintained and serviced only by qualified mechanics,” it said after sharing photos of the aftermath of the ‘eBike’ fire.
“Whilst unlikely, but if you ever encounter this, stay
back so not at risk from hazardous projectile ‘missiles’ and call us.”
Eyewitness who came upon the scene said they did their
best to warn other road users to stay back, but not everyone took the advice
and tried to pass as the burning bike disintegrated.
The photos show the motor was still largely intact but the battery pack, which appears to be made up of lithium batteries, was destroyed.
It was likely those batteries, which contain small cells, that turned into projectiles after catching fire.
