Finnish cyclist Joni Kanerva crash at U23 Worlds Bergen
Dan Martin has entered the debate after an awful crash in the U23 road race at the Worlds in Bergen yesterday.
The Irish pro called for a ban on the driver of the vehicle involved. It swerved into the path of Finland's Joni Kanerva.
Local media reports in Norway have claimed the police is now investigating the crash.
The 21-year-old rider was taken out of it by the car. He was on a stretch of course where speeds were regularly about 70km per hour.
And having taken out the rider, the driver of the vehicle then kept going. He even appeared to accelerate away from the stricken young cyclist.
“The driver of that car should be banned! Especially as they accelerated away. Best wishes to Joni,” said Dan Martin on Twitter.

The young Finn was very badly injured. Local reports suggested he was unresponsive. The reports also said he left a lot of blood at the scene.
He was taken to hospital and though very badly injured he has stabilised.
Reports from Norway say Joni Kanerva has a fractured collarbone. He also suffered bruised ribs. And he has serious road rash to his face and other parts of his body.
He was in the cavalcade when a vehicle ahead pulls into the side of the road to service a punctured rider.
The car behind it then swerves to the left. It speeds around the stopped car, rather than pulling in behind hit.
As the vehicle swerved to the left, it took out Joni Kanerva. He slid across the road and towards the crash barriers.
He hit the feet of the barriers, coming to rest slump into the road.
