Daire Feeley has set himself and his Team iTap squad an ambitious target of 30 wins in 2016, one of which is a stage of the An Post Rás.

The 19-year old Roscommon man is one of the best U23 riders in the country at present.

And he says he has no fear of the bigger squads that have dominated on the Irish scene many times in recent years.

He’s currently on a team training camp in the south of Spain and is aiming to hit the ground running when the domestic season commences in a couple of weeks.

“Things are going well now, I’m just finishing up a big block of training in Marbella and I’m happy to say I’m stronger than last year.

“I just seem to keep getting faster and faster and with the culture we have in the team we're all pumped for the season ahead.”

Feeley, a former Irish junior international, is a full-time bike rider and knows to justify the decision to forego education he needs to perform.

“It's my job to cycle at the minute so like everyone else, regardless of your occupation there are some days you’ll love, some days you like and other days, well…you know yourself, but I blame the weather for that!

“We have some big aims this year and though some people say it’s harder to win against the ‘big’ teams I don’t think it is.

“We had 14 wins in our first year last year and we’re faster this year.

“Lady luck and tactics also need to be right but I'm stronger so we’re looking for 30 wins this year.

“For me, the national championships, a Rás stage and a big one in the UK or Belgium are big targets because I want to move onto the next step.”
