Having previously been the title sponsor of Rás Tailteann, FBD Insurance is back to support the race again this year. The company's involvement has been confirmed by Cáirde Rás Tailteann, which is organising the event under race director Ger Campbell.
FBD will sponsor the daily stage winner's jersey during the 2023 edition, which takes place next month. The company was last the title sponsor of the event back in 2010 - when Alexander Wetterhall claimed overall victory and John Degenkolb won two stages and the points jersey, before going on to a career at the top of pro cycling.
John Cahalan, chief commercial officer for FBD Insurance, said the company was "delighted to once again sponsor the stage winners jersey" at Rás Tailteann.
"Through our 34 branches across the country, local and community is at the heart of what we do and the Rás, as Ireland’s most historic and iconic cycling event, demonstrates this ethos in a really vibrant way. The 2023 race promises to be another fantastic experience and we look forward to seeing all the colour and excitement on display across the five stages”.
Ger Campbell said Cáirde Rás Tailteann was "thrilled" FBD was once again part of the race, thus continuing its very long tradition of involvement.
"FBD Insurance have played a significant role in the history of this race," he said. "FBD’s historical contribution and support in the development of the sporting institution that is An Rás Tailteann was instrumental in lifting the event into a fully-fledged, world ranked UCI grade 2.2 event, befitting its status”.
Rás Tailteann will be fought out over five stages from May 17th. It will feature stage finishes in Birr, Ennis, Castlebar and Monaghan before starting the final stage to a finishing circuit in the seaside town of Blackrock, Co Louth. The riders will cover 768km with 14 categorised climbs in the battle for stage and overall honours.
