You know you've hit the big time when they're asking questions about you on the State exam papers. Today it was the turn of Irish cyclist Sam Bennett, who featured on the Junior Cert Irish Paper 1.
Being included on the Irish paper of course means he'll stalk the nightmares of a generation for years. But it's cool to see cyclists getting this kind of mainstream attention.
A total of 20 marks were on offer for the students able to write about Bennett. The question (we think) stated he was making an appearance at a shop in Carrick-on-Suir and people were invited along for an audience with him.
Students were then asked (we think) to write to their friend about the event to test their ability to write as Gaeilge about a topic. The selection of photo was a little dated as it featured him in Deceuninck-QuickStep kit in a green jersey at the Tour de France in 2020.
However, it's unusual for a athlete from a so-called minority sport to be featured in a State exam question as soccer, rugby and GAA normally dominate in Ireland.
Speaking of the Tour green jersey, Bennett has told wielerflits.nl that trying to win it again next month would be nice, but insisted his plans for the French Grand Tour don't revolve around it.
“But green is not an obsession for me either," he said. "I even see risks in it. It would be shit to go for the green and reduce your chances of a stage win. If you miss the green at the end of the Tour, you're left empty-handed. It is important to get that stage win first, then we can see how we are doing for the green."
