Video: Jakobsen gets fan's flag caught in handlebars in Turkey sprint finish

The policy of distributing so many flags among fans just before the finish lines at the Tour of Turkey will likely be reviewed after today's incident. However, Fabio Jakobsen took it in his stride; winning the stage and even bringing the offending flag onto the podium with him, above.

Fabio Jakobsen may have won stage 3 of the Tour of Turkey
today, but he was given a nervous moment on the way to the finish line.

The 22-year-old Dutch sprinter galloped up the right side
of the road and through a sea of Turkish flags being held by fans.

A large number of the flags were draped over the crowd
control barriers, as has been a feature at the finishes in Turkey.

And because Fabio Jakobsen sprinted so close to the
barriers, he collected one of the flags in his handlebars.

He sped over the line punching the air in victory with
the flag he’d collected sticking out of his handlebars.

Luckily it didn’t go into his front wheel and the
Deceuninck-QuickStep rider took it all in his stride.

He was delighted with his win and also took the flag onto
the podium later.

expect to see fewer flags flapping into the road from now on.
