Aaron Buggle, a former international road rider and ex-professional, has been appointed as Cycling Ireland’s high performance manager on an interim basis.
Buggle (30) fills the vacancy created by the departure of former high performance manager Brian Nugent. He left the job three months ago after initially announcing last December he was departing. Nugent spent 15 years in the role.
Buggle’s appointment is for four months and covers the
period of the Olympics and Paralympics. After his period at the helm is
complete the post will be filled on a permanent basis.
Cycling Ireland said it was “pleased to announce” Buggle had been appointed for a four-month period ending in October.
“Aaron is a former professional cyclist with experience in various areas of sport science including athlete development and coaching, along with management experience in various other roles,” the national governing body said in a statement.

Cycling Ireland added Buggle would focus on “planning, systems, and structures related to the 2024 Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games cycle”.
“In addition to long-term planning, Aaron will manage the
athlete carding process and provide support to the high-performance unit as
delivery of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games campaign continues,” the
federation added.
Buggle medaled three times in the TT at the National Road
Championships. He won a silver in the U23 event in 2009 and claimed bronze in
the elite championships in test in 2010 and 2012.
In 2013 he raced for Rapha Condor, a Continental team based in Britain. As an U23 rider he represented Ireland at the World Championships in the TT in 2009 and at the Europeans, in the road race and TT, in 2012.
