Remco Evenepoel (Red Bull-Bora-hansgrohe) has signed an unusual lifetime deal with global bike brand Specialized that guarantees a significant boost to his career earnings and income for the rest of his life.
The deal follows a trend of longer and longer contracts in pro cycling, whether with teams or other sponsors. For example, Wout van Aert in 2024 signed a career-long contract with Visma-Lease a Bike.
He became a "culture carrier" for the team in a move that ripped up his deal at the time - due to expire at the end of 2026 - for one that will keep him at the Dutch team for as long as he races.
Mathieu van der Poel (Alpecin-Premier Tech) also has a 10-year deal with Canyon, signed in 2024, while Mads Pedersen has a "lifetime" contract with his current team, Lid-Trek.
“I’ve worked with Specialized since the beginning of my career. They’ve been there through the wins, the setbacks, and everything in between," said Evenepoel, who took his latest win at Amstel Gold Race last weekend.
"We have complete trust in each other, which is why this lifetime agreement feels like a natural step, for my racing career and beyond. I still have many goals ahead, and knowing I will have support from Specialized throughout gives me confidence.
"We share the same work ethic, push each other to improve, and I’m excited to see where this journey takes us.”
Specialized said Evenepoel, who has been riding its bikes since he was a junior, had signed up to work with it to "continue pushing performance, advancing technology".
They would "keep building on everything they’ve created together, shaping the next era of racing with shared ambition and relentless pursuit of speed".
“Remco isn’t just a champion. He embodies the spirit of why I started Specialized in the first place; hard work, integrity, resilience,” added Specialized boss Mike Sinyard.
“With every ride, he pushes us, challenges us, and makes every bike we build better for every rider. This isn’t just a lifetime partnership. It’s a belief without an end. Remco forever.”
