An Irish national team will ride the European Cyclocross Championships in Italy in November, with news that four emerging riders have been selected.
The team is comprised of four juniors, riding the men’s
and women’s races. No U23s or elites have been selected by the Cycling Ireland
Offroad Commission as its budget is modest.
However, a national team may be selected for the Worlds
early next year. In the past national teams have gone to the Worlds, with U23s
and elite riders being selected.
The four-rider team for the Europeans is comprised of Darren Rafferty, Ciaran Dixon, Darcey Harkness and Roisin Lally.

Dixon has been riding for the Team Type 1 outfit, which
is a feeder team for the Novo Nordisk ProContinental squad.
Dixon competed in the colours of McConvey Cycles in
cyclocross last season. He rode for Team Type 1 during the 2019 road season and
competed in the Junior Tour of Ireland on the Cycling Ulster squad.
Rafferty rides for Island Wheelers CC and has done very
well in major UK cyclocross races in recent seasons.
He has also impressed on the road, securing national
selection for a number of U16 international races including European Youth
Olympic Games in Baku, Azerbaijan, in July.
Darcey Harkness rides for Carn Wheelers and was 2nd in
the U16 cyclocross championships earlier this year.
She has been emerging on the youth scene for a number of
years and now gets her chance at a junior Europeans.
Roisin Lally is a UK-based rider who has declared for
Ireland and has competed on the UK cyclocross and MTB scenes in recent years.
The Europeans take place Silvelle,
Italy, with both junior races on November 10th, the same day the U23
and elite titles will be contested.
