The Errigal International Youth Tour is looking for a new promoter after the long-term host club has decided to step back from organising the event and pass the mantle on to a new club or promoting group.
Errigal Cycling Club has done Irish cycling a huge service down the years in building the race into the premier youth event in Ireland. And while the last two editions of the race were cancelled due to Covid-19, the host club has created an incredible legacy for somebody else to take up.
The fact Errigal CC has now formally announced their decision to step back leaves plenty of time left to find a replacement promoting club and facilitate what will hopefully be a very smooth handover. Expressions of interest can be made to Cycling Ulster at [email protected].
Errigal CC took on the race, on an initial three-year commitment, in 2012 yet they would go on to run the event for eight editions. They would have promoted it again this year and last season but for the pandemic.
In 2012 the race attracted 120 riders and by 2019, the last edition of the event, the field had doubled to 240. As well as the best youth riders in Ireland taking to the start line, the race also attracted riders from Scotland, the Isle of Man, England, Wales, Spain, South Africa, Belgium, France and Malta.
"None of this would have been possible without the Youth Tours many sponsors with particular thanks going to LK Bikes, Watson Hire and Boyce’s Centra who supported every edition," the club said in a statement issued by Cycling Ireland.
"Thanks also to the members of Donegal County Council and Donegal Sports Partnership for all their help over the years and to the local gardai who ensured the safety of participants.
"The support, advice and encouragement from both Cycling Ireland and Cycling Ulster and all the commissaires, timekeepers, judges and other officials was instrumental in helping Errigal CC successfully host the event for almost a decade."
