Top cyclist Eoin Morton steps away from racing
Having come to cycling relatively late and become one of the most successful riders on the home scene, Eoin Morton is stepping away from racing.
The UCD-FitzCycles.ie man has today confirmed he is taking a step back from racing.
He is best known for his stage win in the Rás two years ago. He and fellow Irish amateur Bryan McCrystal stole away on stage 2 and were never seen again.
And Morton took an unforgettable win at the finish in Charleville after 180km, just ahead of McCrystal.
He also claimed the Tour of Ulster overall last year. Morton won the Visit Nenagh Classic in 2016; probably his best one day victory, of which there were many.
Morton has said he will continue to cycle on the road for recreation. He also plans to do some mountain biking, surfing and travel.
We'll catch up with Eoin Morton soon and bring you more on his decision to step away from road racing.
I have decided to take a step back from racing. I would like to thank everyone that supported me over the years. A special thanks to my @UCD_Cycling team mates who I’ll continue to support behind the scenes. A massive thank you to @propulse for coaching me to numerous big wins. pic.twitter.com/bT0YLaLSxm
