Owain Doull blames Kittel's disc brakes for injury and sliced shoe

Owain Doull of Team Sky said Quickstep rider Marcel Kittel’s disc brake split his shoe open, above, in the Abu Dhabi Tour crash.

Owain Doull of Team Sky has said Marcel Kittel’s disc brakes almost cost him a very serious injury in a crash at Abu Dhabi Tour.

Both riders were among a group of fallers in the closing kilometre of the stage and Doull showed reporters his shoe sliced, saying Kittel’s disc brake had caused the damage.

He insisted the damage was done by the disc and could only have been done by a disc, adding it had cut through his shoe like a knife.

He believed he was lucky he did not sustain a more serious injury to his foot or leg, with blood on his sock suggesting his foot had been cut where his shoe was sliced through.
