The new organisers of the Gorey Three
Day have announced an entry fee increase as part of the event’s efforts to
recovering from financial losses.

Riders taking part in the race will now have to pay €15 more to enter; handing over €75 entry rather than €60.

The fee change is being announced long
before entries open and the new promoting club, Gorey CC, said the fee was
increasing after the losses of previous years.

It added costs had been rising and that since last year the race had also been required to pay the Garda for its work on the race.

Gorey CC said it had been "crunching the numbers" and had decided an entry fee increase was required.

“The race has
been run at loss for a number of years,” it said of the event that has passed
from Irish Road Club to Gorey CC to promote.

“Running costs
have only been going one way, and now since last year we have to pay the Garda
for their services.

“The entry fee
will be going up from €60 to €75 per rider. Credit has to be given to the Irish Road Club that kept the show on the road at the
most testing of times.”

Gorey CC added the entry fee increase amounted to “€5 per stage” and it was “vital for the survival of the race”.

One big change this year under the management
of Gorey CC will be to the route; the race now set to be based in Gorey, Co
Wexford, from start to finish.

It has always raced from Dublin/Wicklow
down to Gorey on stage one, run two stages on Easter Sunday in Gorey and then
raced back to Dublin/Wicklow on Easter Monday.

However, under Gorey CC’s and Derek
Webb’s stewardship the event will be based in and around Gorey from start to finish.

There are also plans for a women’s race,
on the same course at the same time, and also to make Sunday the queen stage of
the event.
