Entries are now being taken for this year’s national criterium championships which take place in Banbridge, Co. Down on Friday August 12th, exactly three weeks from today.
The organisers have warned that those interested in racing should enter via the Cycling Ireland registration page here and do so before the deadline on Friday August 5th.
The championships, promoted by the local club, promises to be great evening’s entertainment with the town centre closed off to traffic.
The circuit itself is a fast one with four left-hand bends and at just one kilometre, it’s going to a very lively affair.
It’s the same circuit on which has been used for the Banbridge crit in recent years, with Roger Aiken (ASEA-Wheelworx) the last man to emerge victorious there in a round of the 'Super 7 crit series' last summer.
Mark Dowling was second that night and as the defending national champion after winning in Claremorris 12 months ago he’ll be out for back-to-back titles.
A women’s support race will also be promoted on the same closed circuit. The race is due to last just over 30 minutes with intermediate prime laps. That will get underway at 7pm with the men on at 7.45pm.
The championships are open to male A+, A1, A2 & A3 riders and a generous cash prize fund has also been secured for both races.
Notes:
- Entries will not be accepted on the day.
- Pre-entry to the women’s race will be available on the CI Women’s Commission website, here, with payment and entry welcomed on the day.
- An entry fee of £10 will apply.
- Race HQ for the event is Banbridge Rugby Club. A full and detailed race manual will be made available on www.banbridgecc.co.uk in the coming days.
