Jamie Meehan, the first-year U23 rider who claimed bronze in the junior road race at the National Championships last year, is set to ride for the Spanish Brocar team next season.

The squad already includes another Irish rider, Nathan Kurensky, and it rode Rás Tailteann last month, winning a stage and holding yellow for a day with David Louis Sutton.

Meehan is currently at home in Ireland after completing his Leaving Cert and will continue to ride for Spellman Dublin Port for the remainder of the 2022 season. He will compete in the colours of Brocar next season until the end of August.

His move follows the recent news that Dean Harvey, another first-year U23 with Spellman Dublin Port, had secured a place with CC Étupes in France for the remainder of the current season.

“I’m really excited to move to Spain next season to race with Team Brocar ale especially after the success they had in the Rás," Meehan said.

"It was a tough year juggling the Leaving Cert and racing but with the amazing support I received from Spellman Dublin Port and the team sponsors I have been able to combine both successfully. I’m really looking forward to coming back to the team in September and to continue my studies in university."

Spellman Dublin Port said it was delighted that another one of its young riders would have the chance to compete in Europe.

"This is a fantastic opportunity for Jamie who follows Dean Harvey into the pro ranks for 2023, cementing the teams commitment to developing your Irish cycling talent," the team told stickybottle.
