Conor Hennebry looks set to be unveiled as an An Post Chain Reaction in the coming days.
The Waterford man is the latest home-based rider to join the Continental ranks and he’ll join fellow Irishmen Matt Teggart, Sean McKenna and Damien Shaw into the Belgium-based team for 2017.
It is an incredible story for Hennebry who will turn 24 years old in February and so it out of the espoir ranks.
But if ever proof were needed that opportunities for Irish riders exist on the Continent, this is one.
The Aqua Blue man emerged only in the last couple of seasons and this year won the Tour of Ulster outright.
His aggressive style of riding put him into the pink jersey there on stage 2 and with the help of his teammates he safeguarded it through to the race’s concluding stage the next day.
Hennebry spent a good chunk of the summer in Belgium and he did extremely well, winning a number of kermesse races.
He first gained national selection last year just two years after starting racing and has a string of top results to his name this season.
The 23-year-old began the 2016 season with second at the Lacey Cup and he also took second in both Carrick-on-Suir on St Patrick’s Day and at the VisitNenagh Classic.
He followed that up with another second on two stages of the Tour of Ulster and overall victory, which he followed up with a win at the Deenside Cup and third at the Shay Elliott Memorial.
He took fourth in a Belgian kermesse in early July and was third in another a few days later, before landing another win in mid-July.
He rode very well on the Irish team at the Beaumont Trophy, a UCI-ranked one-day event in the UK.
