Ronald Bernal, the 15-year-old brother of last year's Tour de France winner Egan Bernal, has signed a contract to come to Europe and race with a pro team.
Androni Giocattoli-Sidermec, the ProContinental team that Egan Bernal began his career with, has said the younger of the Colombian brothers will come to Europe and race in its colours.
However, as Ronald Bernal is still only 15 years old, it will be a number of years before he could line out with the team in pro races, though the team is clearly getting in early and signing him now.
Gianni Savio, who runs the team, revealed the younger Bernal had signed with him and would eventually race with the team.
“Ronald is considered a true talent and Egan himself said he is very strong,” Savio told TuttiBici.
“Egan has decided that his brother Ronald will come to
Italy to race under our guidance and he was recommended to follow him well
because he is really strong.”
“Unlike Egan, his brother is stronger in sprints, when
there is a small group he is able to sprint in front of everyone. They are
talking to me very well about him and I can’t wait to have him with us and make
him grow with attention as we did with Egan.”
