Egan Bernal is enjoying his first days at home since being discharged from hospital after his crash and the Giro d'Italia champion is clearly trying to reassure his fans he is on the road to reocvery.
Bernal is Colombia's most successful ever athletes and is a sporting icon in his home country. Every small development in his recovery is being covered in great detail in his home country, where there has been concern for both his future in the sport and his health prospects.
The 25-year-old Ineos Grenadiers riders has shared this video, below, of himself walking about at his home. And while many of his fans will be reassured by the fact he is able to walk, his large upper body brace and his shaky walking are clear evidence of the sheer scale of the recovery he faces if he is to return to the peloton.
Bernal was discharged from the Clínica Universidad de La Sabana in Bogotá on Monday, some two weeks after he crashed into the back of a bus parked by the roadside. He was out training at the time, riding on his TT bike just ahead of his Ineos Grenadiers training group, which was on a training camp in Colombia.
However, while medics and Ineos Grenadiers have expressed their satisfaction at the rate of his improvement so far, no timeline has been put on his recovery or when he may be able to turn the pedals again.
