Daniel Arroyave, a 21-year-old Colombian who riders for EF Education Nippo, suffered a broken frame and was left shaken after being hit by a driver in a car while he trained at home.
Arroyave, last year's U23 road race champion in Colombia, was getting the winter miles in ahead of his second season with his WorldTour team next year, when he was hit by the driver near Llanogrande, in the department of Antioquia.
His team-issue Cannondale bike was snapped as a result of the incident and photos taken by one of the other rider's he was with showed the damage to the bike, as well as Arroyave sitting in the grass and nursing an apparently injured elbow.
"Thank god it was nothing serious. I'm fine. I just have some lacerations from the crash,” the rider said in a message recorded on video, during which he urged drivers to take more care on the roads.
“Today it was me, tomorrow it could be someone else, and it could be a life. Equipment can be replaced, not a life. I want to urge people to look out for each other. We share the same roads."
