Eddie Dunbar unlucky to fracture collarbone in crash in Italy | Video

Eddie Dunbar gets back up off the deck after a crash he was very unlucky not to come away from without any broken bones. A broken collarbone was diagnosed for the Irish cyclist after the stage had ended

Eddie Dunbar was very unlucky to suffer a broken
collarbone during his stage 3 crash at Tirreno Adriatico, video below.

Dunbar was able to remount and went on to finish the
stage less than two minutes down on winner Michael Woods (EF Pro Cycling).

However, post-stage medical checks and X-rays confirmed the Irish cyclist had fractured his left collarbone.

His team, Ineos Grenadiers, has said further checks would
be required before a plan for recovery could be determined for Dunbar.

The 24-year-old was in a chase group at the time when he apparently touched another rider and crashed off the road and into the grass verge.

The manner of the crash and the fact he fell onto the grass suggested he may be able to come away from it without any broken bones, but unfortunately that was not the case.

Woods had attacked hard up the last steep climb of the
day and went clear, later being joined in Rafal Majka (Bora-hansgrohe).

A chase group, containing Dunbar’s Ineos Grenadiers team
mate Geraint Thomas, was just behind the leading pair and the Irish rider was
in a second chase group a little further back the road.

Dunbar eventually finished the stage just over one minute
down on that second chase group he had been in.

He now faces a period on the sidelines and it was unclear if he might still be able to start the Giro d’Italia in just over three weeks.
