Eddie Dunbar, former winner Dan Martin set for Tre Valle Varesine

Dan Martin hasn't won a race since this one 15 months ago; stage 6 Tour de France 2018. Can he go back to a happy hunting ground tomorrow and add another notch to his palmares?

Dan Martin goes back to Tre Valli Varesine (1.HC) tomorrow for the second time in his career haven taken victory the one and only time he has previously ridden the race, in 2010.

Martin has not won a race since last year's Tour de France when he took stage 6 atop Mur de Bretgane so impressively.

He would dearly love a victory in the 198km race tomorrow as his time with UAE Team Emirates nears an end.

The finishing laps in Varese are very lumpy and can suit Martin if he is going well. He took 18th in Giro dell'Emilia on Saturday, finishing 1:07 behind winner Primoz Roglic (Jumbo Visma).

While he will have to up his game to be competitive tomorrow, and at Il Lombardia next weekend, Saturday's hit out may have blown away a few cobwebs.

Also riding tomorrow is 23-year-old Eddie Dunbar of Team Ineos for what will be his first appearance in the race.

He was 6th in his last outing in Italy; Giro della Toscana on September 18th. And since then he has ridden the elite Worlds where he abandoned on a sodden day in Yorkshire.

Like Dan Martin, the finishing circuit tomorrow is one that could really suit Dunbar if he got a chance to go for a result.

However, with Gianni Moscon and Tao Geoghegan Hart also in the Team Ineos selection, Dunbar may find himself on team duties.
