€700 front wheel found on roadside by rider out training (seriously)

The Zipp front wheel - valued at €700 - that well known rider and team manager Tim Barry found by the road side while he was out training.

Show us a cyclist who hasn’t lost something out training, racing or at a sportive and we’ll show you a spoofer!

We’ve all lost kit, and some of it new out of the wrapper.

But the loss of a front wheel off a bike, apparently mid training ride, is a new one even to the men of the world here at stickybottle.

However, somebody somewhere seems to have gone home without their front wheel and not noticed.

Well known cyclist Tim Barry – now retired from racing and running the Team Aquablue domestic squad – was out training in Cork at the weekend and found a front wheel abandoned by the side of the road.

He reckons the Zipp 404 wheel is valued at around €700.

But despite posting a photo of it on Facebook with a couple of details about when and where it was found, it has yet to be claimed.

Barry found it by the side of the road on the Crosshaven Road on Saturday, in the grass on the side of the road to be precise.

It was punctured and while he has no idea how it got to be there, his best guess is that somebody was out training on it and punctured but had no spare tub or cannister to get home.

And he believes the wheel’s owner may have phoned somebody to collect them and packed their bike into the 'rescue car', only to leave the wheel behind.

But that is only one theory and unless the owner steps forward we’ll never know for sure.

So if you’re missing the front wheel photographed above – but somehow haven’t noticed it yet – get it touch with us and we’ll pass your details onto Barry.

Or maybe you recognise the wheel or you’ve heard a buddy complaining that they’ve mislaid a wheel; this could be it!

It’s an unusual case but it would be good to reunite it with its owner. Otherwise it will go down as a very expensive puncture.
