€250,000 in stolen bikes seized in Dublin raid, includes top end racers

This huge haul of stolen bikes was found during a Garda raid inside a 40ft container at allotments in Co Dublin

Gardai have seized over 100 bikes in one haul in a truck container on an allotment in Dublin.

The bikes, which
gardai believe are all stolen, were found in the container in Newcastle, Co
Dublin, during a search yesterday.

Gardai got a tip off the haul was stashed in the locked container and put a plan in place to break it open and search inside.

When they gained
access yesterday they found 116 bikes and other components.

A statement from Garda Headquarters in Dublin said much of the haul was made up of specialised, or high-end, items.

Because of that, an estimate of €250,000 has been put on the haul. Gardai believe the bikes were all stolen in a series of burglaries and thefts over a long period of time.

“Gardaí in Pearse Street conducted a search on Thursday morning, 26th December, 2019 of a container at Allotments in Newcastle, Co Dublin, and located 116 pedal cycles suspected to be stolen property,” a statement from Garda Headquarters said.
