Dunbar named in quality Ineos line-up for big test in Basque Country

Eddie Dunbar is part of a top quality Ineos Grenadiers line-up for racing in the coming week against a field stacked with many of the best stage race riders in the world

Eddie Dunbar has been named in a top quality Ineos Grenadiers line-up for Itzulia Basque Country, with gets underway tomorrow with a 13.98km TT in
Bilbao.

The selection includes the Giro winners from the last two
seasons, Tao Geoghegan Hart and Richard Carapaz, as well as Volta a Catalunya
overall and queen stage winner Adam Yates.

In a supporting role with Dunbar will be Andrey Amador,
Laurens Du Plus and Ben Swift, making for a really strong team.

Ireland’s Dunbar suffered a crash at Coppi e Bartali (2.1) last month but was thankfully given the all-clear in hospital afterwards.

Roglic and Pogacar are both due to be on the start line tomorrow, heading an incredible field at Itzulia Basque Country for what should be six great days of racing

That crash on stage 2 meant the Irishman played no
further part in the race which was a shame as there was plenty of punchy
climbing over the following four stages, which would have suited Dunbar.

The 24-year-old climber got back into action this weekend with a solid showing at GP Miguel Indurain in Spain yesterday, when he was in the hunt until the final 10-15km.

At that point Dunbar faded a little before finishing 48th almost five minutes down. However, that outing after his recent crash should stand him in good stead over the coming week.

After his move to Ineos Grenadiers during the winter Adam Yates has started his time with the British team with fantastic performances. So far this season he has placed 2nd overall at UAE Tour before winning a stage and leading a team clean sweep of the final podium

While the Ineos Grenadiers team is packed with talent, the field for Itzulia Basque Country is a stacked one, with many of the best stage race riders in the world taking part.

That group is led by Tour de France champion Tadej Pogačar (UAE Team Emirates) and Vuelta champion Primož Roglič (Jumbo-Visma), meaning all three current Grand Tour title holders are in the field.

Hugh Carthy (EF Education-Nippo), 3rd at last year’s Vuelta, is also lining out, as is Paris-Nice winner Max Schachmann (Bora-Hansgrohe), yesterday’s GP Miguel Indurain winner Alejandro Valverde (Movistar), Guillaume Martin (Cofidis) and Michael Woods (Israel Start-Up Nation).

Other big names who should also be in the mix include Mikel
Landa (Bahrain Victorious), Esteban Chaves (BikeExchange), Marc Hirschi (UAE
Team Emirates), Jakob Fuglsang (Astana) and Bauke Mollema (Trek-Segafredo).
