Having made the early five-man breakaway on stage 1 of the Tour of Yorkshire, Irish teenager Eddie Dunbar's race has quickly turned to disaster following a crash.
As his escape group was being recaptured after a prolonged period out front, Dunbar attacked, apparently on the hunt for more climbers' classification points.
The NFTO Pro Cycling rider had earlier taken the first climbers' prime of the day.
He built a lead on his own of around 30 seconds but crashed a short time later.
His team said on Twitter he was on his way to hospital in an ambulance with a suspected broken collarbone.
Earlier, Dunbar went clear in a five-man escape very soon after the start on the 174km stage from Bridlington to Scarborough.
He took the climbers’ points on the climb of Dalby Forrest after around 5okm.
The breakaway’s lead had gone out to over 5 minutes but had come down gradually; with Team Sky doing much of the riding on the front of the peloton.
That's bitterly disappointing news for young Dunbar, if indeed his team's fears are confirmed that he has broken his collarbone.
Hopefully he can bounce back really quickly as he has been absolutely flying this season and has shown no fear in taking on all comers, including the World Tour teams today.
