Dublin cyclists asked to log problems with road surface and safety
Cyclists are being asked to register problems with the roads that they encounter while commuting or training.
Cyclists are being urged to use a new online tool to report issues around road safety they encounter while out training or commuting.
South Dublin County Council is asking cycling clubs to tell it when the roads are unsafe so they can fix the problem immediately.
The council has written to all cycling clubs based in its catchment area or using the roads into the area by writing to Cycling Ireland.
And now the national governing body is informing its members of the council’s invitations in the hope it will be taken up and improvements achieved for cyclists.
“As part of South Dublin County Council’s core values to promote road safety and civic engagement we are asking cycling clubs to report any issues of road safety they may encounter whilst cycling throughout our county,” the invitation from the council to cycling clubs states.
“Our catchment area comprises of the electoral areas: Tallaght South, Tallaght Central, Rathfarnham, Lucan, Clondalkin and part of Templeogue/Terenure.”
It adds that any issues with road conditions can be reported online, by phone or in person. And the council added when such problems were reported it would endeavour to address the issues as fast as possible.
Cyclists can visit the council’s website – www.sdcc.ie – and go to the ‘fixyourstreet’ area to flag a location and input a description of the problem.
And cyclists can also contact the council’s offices on (01) 414 9000, or email [email protected]. For those who want to call into the council’s offices in person, they can go to the customer care counter in County Hall, Tallaght, Dublin 24.
The council added: “We appreciate your support and time in this matter as this will in turn help make our roads safer for all cyclists and will help to make our county the best place in which to live, work and do business.”
