The videos below were recorded by a Dublin cyclist out on a short ride yesterday morning.
He was taking the journey, by bike, of about 7km in the Malahide-Portmarnock area of north Dublin.
Just days after the new offence of dangerously overtaking a cyclist was introduced, he said he was hopeful the roads would feel safer.
On the basis of what he experienced, he said that optimism was very short-lived.
One of the comments on Twitter when he posted these clips came from fellow cyclist and Sunday Business Post editor Richard Oakley.
"I am not here to debate safety gear. People can wear it and that's fine. Lights are mandatory. Cyclists should obey red lights," he said.
"Now watch the videos and tell me the debate we should be having? Do you reckon there is something more pressing for road safety chiefs to worry about?
"It's funny that people think hi-viz and helmets are the issues we need to be talking about, not the fact that few seem to understand how to share space with cyclists.
"And no I don't want to hear about the time you saw a cyclist break a red light."
Have a look at these clips and see what you think yourself.

Portmarnock village is narrow and full of cars blocking the path but its still a good place to overtake people on bikes
we hit the village traffic and filter thru 6/11 pic.twitter.com/dfL7V9kKdb

congratulations if you've made it this far. we made the 7.5km trip to the park in one piece and my stress level can start to drop back down
we left the house at about 11.10 and arrived at the park about 11.25 [no motorist was delayed in the making of this thread]
