A member of Dublin cycling club Lucan CRC has taken victory in the elite men's TT at the national championships in his native Croatia.
Toni Stojanov (23) lives in Dublin but traveled home to Croatia this week to ride yesterday's title race. And having won bronze in the U23 TT five years ago as an 18-year-old, he took the elite crown this time around.
Stojanov has settled in Dublin in recent years, works for CycleSuperstore in Tallaght and races on the Irish scene in the colours of his Lucan club. He took victory in an A4 race in Mondello Park last season and has since moved up the ranks to A1.
However, the race against the clock is his preferred event and now he has taken a national title in Croatia in the colours of Lucan CRC. It is the first time one of the club's riders has won a national championships since John Heraty claimed the Irish 10 mile TT title back in 1990.
The reigning Irish men's elite champion, Conn McDunphy, is also a former Lucan CRC rider but won his title last year riding for his French team CC Nogent-sur-Oise.
Stojanov won the title yesterday by 1:10 from Lorenzo Marenzi of Croatian Continental team Meridiana Kamen.
