Video: Come on Dublin Bus, your drivers can do better than this

This overtaking of a cyclist is a perfect example of a ropey move that could be avoided by the driver giving the cyclist a moment to be on his way.

It could be argued that driver behaviour in Dublin has improved generally down the years; the sheer volume of cyclists on the road now means drivers are more used to seeing us.

And, based on our experience cycling around the city, we also believe the driving of Dublin Bus staff is generally more considerate.

There is still much work to be done, of course. And that work is going to take years.

Some drivers still don’t appreciate that by giving cyclists a little bit of time and space everybody is safer on the roads.

The clip below is a case in point. In it the driver of the bus is pulling in at a bus stop.

But rather than hang back for a moment to let the cyclist be on his way, the driver overtakes and pulls in immediately ahead of him.

It forces the cyclist to come to a sudden stop. And it simply creates a moment of risk that could easily have been avoided.

Nobody was injured and there was no collission. It is also important to say that the cycle lane was not encroached on by the driver.

Furthermore, the cycle lane stops at the bus stop. But still; is a couple of seconds too much to ask for?
