Dublin bike shop seeks customers' help to pay tax bill

A Dublin bike shop has turned to an online raffle and crowd funding to clear a tax bill of €11,000.

The On Track Dublin store has been operating for six years. It has decided to shut its doors but has been given a departing surprise.

The Revenue Commissioners carried out an audit and has demanded €11,000.

And because the bill came by surprise, and has been delivered after the business is closed, the owners are seeking assistance from the cycling community.

Those behind the business, which operated on Cook St, Dublin 8, have begun a crowd funding campaign.

Those behind the fundraising drive have summed up the situation thus:

“On Track had a tax audit subsequent to closing down last January and has received a bill for just over €11,000,” it’s says in its online appeal.

“While this is a meager sum by taxman standards, it's a lot more than we have lying around.

“If we can't come up with payment in full in the next month or so we'll have to pay interest and penalties too. And the figure will then shoot up to around €17,000.

“In light of this we've decided to turn to the community we've served for the last six years to raffle off some nice goodies in the hopes of putting a hole in this debt.

T-shirts and donations

“There are limited tickets for all raffle items. And if you're not into bikes then how about seizing your last chance to buy a classic On Track Dublin t-shirt?

“If you're just feeling generous donations are also welcome! In return you will have our eternal love and appreciation and possibly free bike repairs any time you're stuck!”

The business owners will be running a farewell fundraiser goldsprint event next month at which the raffle will take place.

It will be broadcast live on social media and independently verified. All items will be available for international shipping overseas.
