Ireland's Xeno Young has shown his show the depths of his class at the junior Europeans and Worlds already this year. He looked very strong at elite level in Berlin before disaster struck.
Having taken silver in the junior pursuit at the European Championships and World Championships already this year, Xeno Young's elite baptism has more difficult.
Young (17) clocked a very strong time in qualifying at the elite European Championships this afternoon.
Riding the 4km event, a kilometre more than the junior distance, Young looked like he belonged at this level.
He would clock a time of 4:27.445; an extremely solid ride and one that suggests there is a lot more to come from him.
But he was caught by Sasha Weemaes of Belgium, who clocked 4:19.518. Unfortunately Young has judged to have benefitted from the passing rider.
And so after his 4km was completed, and he sat second fastest, of all the qualifiers to that point he was disqualified.
More later.
Can’t be annoyed with that for my first 4K https://t.co/ssLYzkj82A
