Sometimes these guys really are too stupid for words. One home owner got his bike and tools back; nice one.
We’ve brought you a number of stories over the last while about particular stupid or hapless bike thieves, but we reckon this recent case from Wales takes the biscuit.
The thief left his mobile phone at the house where he stole a mountain bike and a variety of other items.
And with the phone turned on - with the torch app still active - the victim contacted the thief’s father and uncle asking who owned the “lost” phone.
When the same name was supplied, the victim put his own message on Facebook warning of the public humiliation that would follow if he didn’t get all of his gear back by the next morning.
"You have probably now realised that you left your mobile phone on top of my shelf with the torch app still on. VERY SILLY BOY," he posted according to a report in the South Wales Evening Post.
"Not only do I have your phone and all photos, I have just spoken to DAD, UNCLE... and they have all given me the same name.
"You have until 9am tomorrow morning to knock my front door with the mountain bike and every single tool you have stolen.
"After 9am I will be calling... MAM MOBILE, NAN HOUSE and BOSS HOME.
"The ball is in your court. Just remember I know who you are and where you live, it's whether you want everyone on Facebook to know."
The robbery occurred at a house in Tonypandy, Rhondda, Wales, last Saturday; with the victim realising on Sunday morning that his new mountain bike and a lot of tools had been taken from his shed.
Posting the Facebook message and speaking to the thief’s father and uncle worked a treat, with the hapless crook calling to the victim's house with all of the gear he’d stolen.
The victim’s Facebook post was shared almost 20,000 times, with many leaving comments advising him to give a hiding to the guy who stole from him.
However, it appears he had no need, as he explained on a follow-up Facebook message:
"With regards to all the comments about giving him a good slap: even though this morning I wanted to, by the time he got here his dad and uncle had already seen to that."
