Teams from Ireland and further afield who are interested in riding the 50th running of the P&O Ferries Tour of the North have been invited to register immediately.

The four-day stage race will take place over the Easter Weekend and will open with the prologue time trial at Stormont Castle in Belfast.

The event has been organised by the Northern Cycling Club since it was first held in 1955 and it is now one of the oldest stage races in Ireland and Britain. It was not held on a number of occasions meaning this year is the 50th time it has been run.

The organisers said they are delighted with the continued support of P&O Ferries, which has supported the race without interruption for 20 years.

Last year’s race was dominated by the UK-based Continental teams Node4-Giordana and Rapha Condor.

Lone IG Sigma Sport rider and Belfast man, Peter Hawkins was best Irishman when he finished 4th on the final general classification. Node4’s James Moss ran out the eventual winner with an 18 second margin over Scotland’s Michael Nicholson.

The organisers tell us that interest has been high for the Easter encounter, with entry enquiries already received from Ireland, Scotland, England and Holland.

Teams interested in entering a four-man squad should contact race director Anthony Mitchell for entry details at [email protected]
