Dispute emerges over accuracy of times at National TT Champs

A dispute has emerged over the accuracy of some of the times credited to riders at the National Time Trial Championships.

A dispute has emerged over the accuracy of the times at the National Time Trial Championships in Cong, Co Mayo, at the weekend.

Yesterday the junior and A3 road races were held, with Jake Gray (NRPT) and Ciara Doogan (UCD-FitzCycles) taking gold.

But before that action got underway, the junior and Masters categories competed on Saturday for the their respective Irish TT titles.

There were five contests in all on Saturday; Masters 40, Masters 50 and Masters 60 and separate men’s and women’s junior TT title races.

Stickybottle understands the dispute over timing has arisen in the Masters 40 event, with some of those racing believing the times they were credited with were not accurate.

The dispute involves “no more than a couple of riders”, according to one source.

Cycling Ireland runs a dispute mechanism in which riders can effectively appeal against their result.

It was unclear at the time of writing whether the riders who had voiced their concern over the accuracy of the times had lodged an appeal.

However, a spokesman for the promoting club Cunga CC said he was aware that at least one rider had questioned about the accuracy of his time and had suggested he was considering lodging an appeal.

The spokesman added as far as the promoting club was concerned the results were accurate but an appeal could be made by any rider with concerns.

He was unaware of any such appealing having been lodged, as yet.

Neil Delahaye (ASEA-Wheelworx) won the Masters 40 title from Ian Cassidy (Fixx Rouleurs), with Greg Swinand (Team Aquablue) completing the podium.
