Dillon Corkery, the Irish U23 international road rider, has gotten a call up to ride at the World Road Championships in Yorkshire.

The 20-year-old, who is in his second year at U23 level, will today ride the new mixed relay TTT as part of a six-rider UCI composite team.

It means he rides the race in the colours of the UCI as Darragh O'Mahoney and Ben Healy did at the Tour de l'Avenir; Healy winning a stage on the race.

The Irish U23 team at the Worlds comprises Healy and Michael O'Loughlin, who both rode for Team Wiggins this year; O'Loughlin riding the TT and Healy riding both the TT and road race.

With such a small U23 team representing Ireland at the Worlds berths were at a premium. But Corkery still gets a chance; in the elite mixed relay against some of cycling's strongest nations.

In the UCI mixed relay team with Ireland’s Dillon Corkery are:

  • Ben Katerberg: The 19-year-old is riding with the Development Team Sunweb squad this year and was Canadian junior and road champion last year.
  • Petr Keleman: The 18-year-old from the Czech Republic was national junior road race champion last year. As well as riding the mixed relay he also competes in the U23 road race at the Worlds.
  • Teniel Campbell; the Trinidad & Tobago rider is competing with the UCI women’s pro team on the road this year and won both stages and the overall in Kreiz Breizh Elites Dames (2.2). The 21-year-old also claimed the Pan American U23 TT title earlier this year.
  • Anastasiya Kolesava: The 19-year-old from Belarus is also on the UCI’s women’s pro team this year. She was 3rd in the national championships and was junior road and TT champion last year.
  • Fernanda Yapura: Also in the UCI women’s road pro team this season, the 21-year-old from Argentina was 6th in the Pan American games this season.
