Dillon Corkery signs up with French team for next phase of development

Dillon Corkery, an U23 international and former Irish elite criterium champion, has signed up with a French team for next season.

The 20-year-old, who moves into his third season at U23
level in 2020, has secured a place with Vélo Club de Toucy.

Based in the Yonne department in north central France,
the team has played hosted to a number of top Irish riders I recent years; Mark
Downey and Jake Gray both spending stints there.

Corkery was a top Irish junior before joining the elite-U23 ranks and took his biggest win in the elite criterium championships last year.

Dillon Corkery has ridden for the Bio Racer-DHL-FRS team for the past two seasons and has now decided to take his career to France to develop further.

Corkery was a late call-up to the UCI World Cycling
Centre line-up for the mixed relay TT at the World Road Championships in
Yorkshire in September.

He has represented Ireland on the road in junior and U23
Nations Cup races in Continental Europe.

This year he rode the Course de la Paix Grand Prix
Priessnitz Spa (2.Ncup) stage race in the Czech Republic.

He also competed with the Irish team in Kreiz Breizh Elites (2.2) stage race
in France and was selected for the U23 road race at the Europeans.

Corkery’s new team, which has links to Groupama-FDJ
WorldTour outfit, issued a brief statement saying it was delighted to sign such
a strong Irish rider who had already gained international experience.
