Philip Deignan will make a later than expected start to the 2016 season after breaking his elbow on a Team Sky training camp in Majorca.
The Donegal man collided with a car and sustained the broken bone at a time of year when he would normally be ramping up his training.
With the expected recovery time of around eight weeks, he faces a lay-off from training on the roads though that won't prevent him getting the miles in on the home trainer.
The 2015 season was a very difficult one for the 32 year-old, with injuries blighting his progress as well as preventing him from starting the Vuelta A Espana, a race he’s won a stage of in the past.
A suffered a broken elbow at the National Road Championships in Omagh in July which halted his progress when he had been in mint condition and riding brilliantly.
Prior to that he looked odds-on for a first Tour de France start having impressed in the Criterium du Dauphiné. But that crash at the nationals saw him forced out of action.
However, he’s never one to feel sorry for himself and just 24 hours after his most recent injury he was all smiles at the British Sports Personality of the Year award in Belfast; an event his fiancée Lizzie Armitstead was aiming to win.
And here's a nice little shot of the man himself looking festive back in Donegal...
