A woman in her 30s has become the latest cyclist to be killed on the roads of the Republic, bringing the number of cyclist fatalities well past levels seen in all of last year despite almost half the year remaining.
The cyclist death toll on the roads of the Republic has increased further this morning with news that a woman has been killed after being knocked from her bike by an articulated truck in Limerick City.
The fatal collision occurred at 7.30am on the junction of Rutland Street, Fr Matthew Bridge and Charlotte's Quay.
The emergency services were alerted immediately and while paramedics arrived in a bid to save the victim, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The dead woman has not yet been named by the Gardai though she is believed to be in her 30s.
Her remains were taken to the nearby Mid Western Regional Hospital where a post mortem will take place late today, a statement from the Garda said.
The scene of the collision and adjoining roads were closed this morning to allow crash scene investigators examine the area as part of the Garda’s inquiry into the fatality.
