The cyclist got back on his bike after being in collision with a vehicle only to end up in hospital hours later where he was pronounced dead.
A cyclist involved in a lunchtime collision rode home only to suffer cardiac arrest in his house and die after being transferred to hospital.
A criminal inquiry is now underway and a public appeal for witnesses has been launched.
Greater Manchester Police have said the deceased man died after cardiac arrest, but they are now trying to establish how the collision occurred and the role, if any, it had in his death.
Jason Lee Gibbs was cycling to his Moss Side home from his work in Gorton when he was involved in a collision with a car at some time between 1.10pm and 1.50pm last Friday, July 22nd.
He fell from his bike but remounted and continued his journey, reaching home and suffering cardiac arrest in bed at about 5.30pm that evening.
The 44-year-old was taken to hospital but he died there on Sunday morning.
Police have now issued a public appeal as they try to establish how the collision occurred and whether the vehicle involved was moving or stationary at the time.
The deceased was wearing a blue helmet and was riding a blue Kona Fire Mountain bike at the time of the collision.
PC Neil Pennington of Greater Manchester Police’s serious collision investigation unit said the force was now turning to the public for information.
“My thoughts are with Jason’s family at this distressing time and we have specially trained officers supporting them,” he said.
“Unfortunately, we don’t have full details of where the collision happened or what vehicle was involved, but I am urging anyone who saw the collision or was involved to come forward
“It may not have appeared serious at the time, but a man has died, and any information you have, no matter how small, could help us piece together what happened.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Greater Manchester Police.
