Dean Harvey is top of the Cycling Ireland junior rankings at present. The VC Glendale rider is the only junior, of the 222 listed in the national rankings, to have been upgraded to A2 so far this year.
While Harvey is the sole A2, there are 99 riders at A3 and 122 at A4. And because Harvey has been upgraded, he leads the rankings even though his points total as an A2, on 54 points, is 10 lower than Ruairi Byrne (Orwell Wheelers Cycling Club) has scored as an A3.
Both Byrne and his team mate at Orwell, Andrew Ryan, are effectively joint 2nd in the Cycling Ireland junior rankings, with both on 64 points as A3s. They are followed by Eoghan Cooke (Ounavarra Cycling Club), who is 4th in the rankings with 47 points and then Harvey's VC Glendale team mate Jamie Meehan in 5th on 42 points.

The other riders in the top 10, in order, are: Somhairle Owens Fisher (Team Caldwell Cycles) 39 points; Sam Bolger (Killarney Cycling Club) 30; Stefan Caulfield-Dreier (Killarney Cycling Club) 28; Odhran Doogan (Team Caldwell Cycles) 27; Samuel Moloney (Greenmount CA) and Ronan O’Connor (Orwell Wheelers Cycling Club), who are equal 10th on 26 points.

Harvey (18) has enjoyed a very strong season this year, often mixing it at the front of hard racing with the top A1 riders in the country. In the Cycling Ireland National Road Series he won the opening round in Co Limerick in June.
And in the next round of the series, at the Newcastle West Stage Race just over three weeks ago, he held the yellow jersey from start to finish after winning the opening TT stage. He then won the opening road race stage the next day in the yellow jersey; holding it for the next two stages.
The Orwell riders equal 2nd in the rankings - Byrne and Ryan - also performed very well in that Limerick stage race. Byrne was on the Irish team for the weekend with Harvey and he finished 2nd overall.
Ryan won the final stage and was 3rd overall and has also won the Waller Cup in Bohermeen this year. Cooke, who is 4th in the rankings, was also on the national team for that Limerick stage race and he won stage 3.
