Chris Dawson has been in recent European MTB XC action, taking results and collecting more UCI points, and now the Belfast rider has been selected by Cycling Ireland to ride the European Championships.

Those European title races take place in Cheile Grădiștei, Romania, from May 8th to 12th, with Dawson set to ride the XC short track and Olympic races.

"I'm really excited to be representing Ireland again at the European Championships, this is my second season competing in the Euros - so I'm coming in with some more experience," he said.

"Training and racing has been going really well, I've been hitting power PBs and this has translated into some strong results with a 5th, 3rd and 2nd at UCI Class 1 events over the past few weeks. I was 39th last year and I'm aiming to improve on that this year, a top 30 would be great to achieve."

Dawson has recently been racing in UCI-ranked events in both Spain and Serbia, taking results and gathering up more UCI points, as he did last year.

In Spain at the C1-ranked XCO Alpedrete and in the Serbia Epic Series, where he rode two races back-to-back, he placed 2nd and 3rd, with another 70 UCI points in the bag.

The men's elite 'short track' will see Dawson ride qualifying next Wednesday, May 8th, as he aims to book a spot on the start grid for the final on Thursday, May 9th. The Men's elite 'cross-country Olympic' race takes place at 4pm local time on Sunday week, May 12th.
